Project Abstract

Logos, commercials, ads, billboards, etc. From Chester Cheetah sprinting across your Cheetos bag to the iconic Apple logo, graphic designers execute a wide variety of projects. As someone who has always had an interest in art, I find that graphic design takes an interesting twist on what it means to be an artist. But what exactly does “graphic design” incapsulate? And what can I, a high school senior, begin learning about this world now before I even go to college? That brings me to my project. For the past ten weeks, I have been interning with graphic designer Tim Devey and at Sadie Sarti Design Co, which has given me a comprehensive introduction to the world of graphic design. I have learned a lot and accomplished a variety of projects, which have made me much more adept at Adobe applications and capable of working through all sorts of designs. I have worked on flyers, social media posts, business cards, on and offboarding client packets, and even a book, giving me a look into what it is like to work freelance, as well as in a studio. Along with my internships, I have been conducting research and working on one culminating project: developing my own brand. I have designed my own logo and created a brand guide which I will present as part of my final product, along with some Ivy Bosley Design brand items, such as stickers, T-shirts, etc. With all of these experiences, I have learned more about what it takes to design and create a product, work through a project, and think like a graphic designer, providing me with incomparable experience for a future in graphic design.

  • Blog 10: Putting the Final Touches…

So as it turns out, I am even more indecisive than I thought! I spent the week working mostly on logo design, aside from the time I spent at Sadie's. I have been through so many ideas and have gone between wordmark and pictorial mark logo types. Wordmark logos are logos that focus on font... Read More

Despite lots of work on my logo this week, I am still not quite done, but I am confident that I will have a final one by Monday. • Blog 8: The Logo Method

This week was really productive for working on my brand--and more specifically, my logo. I started by just sketching out some ideas I had without putting much thought into it. I thought of one specific idea I liked and was ready to roll with it--a little snail icon to the left of the words "Ivy... Read More

I have some exciting news concerning my flyer insert for Tim: I finally finished the project! It was pretty slow going with both he and I being quite busy most of the time, but I learned so much along the way. At Sadie's, I'm getting to experience work in a small studio where things are... Research was a big part of my week, both for my brand and for Sadie Sarti Design. As it was my first week working three days at Sadie’s, I got to do more projects than usual, and therefore I learned more as well. On Tuesday, I worked on promoting Sadie as one of the PRO... Read More

  • Blog 5: An Exciting Offer!

Before I get into what I did this week, I got an exciting offer from Sadie. On Tuesday morning, while we were going over my schedule for the day, she offered me a summer job working there! She even said that if I had the time, that I could take more hours now and she... Read More

Wow, I got to do a lot of different things this week! I did at least a little bit of everything–research, client work, project feedback, and more. Let’s get right into it.  I started doing some more targeted research on the steps to developing a brand and have learned a lot. In an article on... Read More

  • Senior Project Blog 3: Research, Research, Research

Tim was out of town this week, so I won't have an update on my flyer insert project until we meet again next week. That means that along with starting my internship at Sadie Sarti Design Co, I got to spend the week doing my own research and working on my personal branding project. With... Read More

Hello World! My name is Iva-Mae B.  Since I was born, I have been surrounded by art. My dad is an illustrator, so I have been drawing my whole life. When I was little, it was the occasional doodle, but as I’ve gotten older, and more serious about art, I’ve delved into other areas of... Read More
