Blog 6: Research All Around
Research was a big part of my week, both for my brand and for Sadie Sarti Design. As it was my first week working three days at Sadie’s, I got to do more projects than usual, and therefore I learned more as well. On Tuesday, I worked on promoting Sadie as one of the PRO finalists for the Prescott Woman Awards. I didn’t even know what the Prescott Woman Awards were before this week, but now I feel like an expert on them. I had to learn how to vote and all of the requirements in order to draft an email to be sent out to clients and design a social media post about it. Similarly, I helped design a template for an offboarding client packet, which is basically a digital or physical packet reviewing the project that has been completed. It may include a project recap, branding details, ongoing support info, feedback request, etc. And lastly, today, I designed a few options for instagram posts promoting the College Rodeo and Cornhole Competition. Again, I didn’t know that it even existed, but I now know more than I ever would’ve otherwise.
I feel like I have a better understanding of just how much you have to know for each project, even just to spread the word. For each project and post, I needed to be well informed on the events as well as the brand style that I should follow. For instance, with the rodeo post, I used the colors and fonts of the World’s Oldest Rodeo as they were the ones putting it on, and I had to learn all the details of the event itself.
For Tim, I completed two designs for round two of the Organic Grains Flyer Insert. Not much to report for those, but I will include them at the bottom. It was interesting exploring how to give the designs texture through visuals, which is not something I would’ve thought you could really do.
As for my own brand development, I finally have something tangible to share! I have been using another article for my research which has been very helpful because it is specifically targeted toward graphic designers. For now, I have picked the main colors for my brand’s color palette (pictured below). I used the Palette Scout, a box of many different hues and gradients along with helpful tips on creating a palette. I messed around with different combinations until I came up with something I liked. Next steps will be a name and logo. Since this is mainly for my own research and practice, the name will likely just be a play on my own name so that I can spend more time on the actual design process. I will hopefully have a name as well as a logo to share with you soon!
