Week 2: Sketching the Vision
Aerion E -
Hello, welcome back! For my senior project, I have continued my research on the evolution of fashion marketing, such as focusing on how certain brands have shaped trends over time. One of the key sources that I have been reading so far is “As Seen in Vogue: A Century of American Fashion in Advertising,” which explores how fashion was marketed throughout various decades. The book highlights the 1990s as a time of bold branding, supermodels dominating certain campaigns, and streetwear gaining more traction throughout high fashion.
In addition to the book research, I have also been studying vintage advertisements from different sources such as – Vogue and the Maurice Malone archives. Whereas Vogue showcases the more “pushy” side of fashion marketing while Maurice Malone reflects on different rising trends such as hip-hop culture, and street style. This offers a perspective of fashion brands and how they go about executing a strategy to connect with their audience properly. When I compared the two sources, I saw the differences between marketing strategies from the 90s to the 2000s more clearly – as well as how the social and political situations during those times could’ve had an impact on this certain change.
Recently, I have also secured an internship! It’s at a small realtor business, where I’ll be assisting marketing and creating visuals for social media. I cannot wait to share more with you all, until next time – bye!
