Senior Research Week 6 – Shaheer Rehman

Shaheer R -

Hey everyone!

Welcome back to Week 6 of my blog! This week, I made significant progress on my CPAP research and explored the incredible potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, particularly for sleep apnea and other medical specialties.

I’ve continued researching 3D scanning and printing for creating custom-fit CPAP masks, and I’ve been learning how AI could analyze facial scans and user feedback to design masks tailored to individual needs.

Beyond my project, I discovered how AI is transforming fields like radiology. For example, AI tools are analyzing X-rays and MRIs to detect conditions such as fractures, tumors, and lung diseases with speed and accuracy. In sleep medicine, AI has the potential to streamline sleep study data analysis, identifying apnea events and even predicting outcomes based on a patient’s history. These technologies have the power to make healthcare more efficient while reducing errors and improving patient care.

This exploration has helped me see how my current skills can connect with AI to create innovative solutions. Next week, I plan to continue my work and learn more. Thanks for following along, and I’m excited to share more soon!

Hey Shaheer—this is really interesting! What has been the most surprising thing that you have learned about A.I.'s role in this process that you didn't know before?

Hey Shaheer, did see any potential issues with using A.I, such as ethical concerns, and have you seen your clinic integrate this kind of technology into their diagnoses?

Hey Aswita! The clinic I go to hasn’t implemented AI in any major way and for the field I’m working in I don’t anticipate many ethical concerns for AI.
