The Start of Something New: Laying the Foundation for My Podcast

Nick a -

Hello everyone, and welcome to another blog post!

I recently created a logo for my podcast. I know that might not sound very exciting, but any artistic creation of mine that turns out as decent as an In-N-Out burger is a win in my book. After brainstorming multiple names for my podcast, I settled on the title So That’s What You Do.

I’ve also been working on a theme song for it, which has become one of the early highlights of my project. Inspired by a jazzy vibe and Pitch Perfect-style a cappella, I had a clear vision of how I wanted the song to sound. Since songwriting is one of my hobbies, I decided to add a few lyrics to the mix. Using GarageBand, I sifted through loops and am now finalizing the tune.

Switching over to interviews—finding guests turned out to be more challenging than I expected. I was able to reach out to some Maricopa County locals, but that only covers a portion of my target audience. I want my podcast to include a diverse range of people, so I will continue to search for more people to interview. One of my first guests will be a nurse. I remember the immense appreciation nurses and other medical professionals received during the COVID-19 pandemic for their hard work. Nursing is a profession surrounded by myths and misconceptions, and I hope to give students a clearer understanding of the field—especially those considering it as a career.

Hi, Nick! I love that you are writing a theme song! So cool. Have you reached out to people via social media (in terms of gathering possible guests)? I love the graphic. Do you have the first interview scheduled? Tell us more!

Hi Nick! I love your logo for your podcast. It catches the eye and represents the goal of your podcast really well. Do you have a scheduled date for when you hope to release your first podcast episode?

Nick, I think the fact that you're using your passion for songwriting to make a theme song for your podcast is super creative. I also think it's really smart to have a nurse as the first guest for your audience, especially with the explanation that you gave. How long do you expect each podcast episode to be? Hope the recording goes smoothly!

Hello @meggiles. I have used social media to find out potential careers to interview. I created a small list of potential candidates and plan to reach out to them. I have my first interview scheduled already and I have two more people as of now that just need to confirm a specific time.

Hello Cason! As of now, my first few interviews will be on zoom. I want to see if I can get at least a couple of people to interview in person at ASU, but we'll se how it goes!

Hey Allison, I was originally thinking of doing one episode per week, but have decided to shift course a little bit. I plan to just get the interviews done first, and work on editing the episodes after the interviews are conducted. I will definitely let you know when I have a confirmed release date for my first episode!

Hey Danielle, I want to try to keep the podcast short and sweet, so probably no longer than 30-45 minutes. The reason is because my target audience consists mainly of high schoolers, and I want to keep them intrigued and not bore them.

Hello Kathy! It's taken me more than a few hours to make the theme song. As I am not an expert at using GarageBand, it's taken me a bit to get used to the program and create something that I like, and that's just for instruments. However, I don't think recording vocals shouldn't take too long.
