Welp. Week 7
Josh n -
Hey everyone, again I apologize for the lateness of my post, (who would’ve thought that these last couple months would be so busy!)
This last week was supposed to have the perfect conditions across all aspects of the vivarium to allow me to continue with my project this week, meaning I would have real data to analyze and it would have just worked finally. Both cameras had storage, and their settings were correct (I believe), they were set up in the best locations to see the whole enclosure without anything blocking the shot, and it was warm outside the majority of the time.
Welp. One can only hope.
I have found a couple wrenches that have been thrown into my plans, one medium size and the other colossal. Firstly, everything I got was corrupted. Every video from both cameras minus a couple that were from the process of downloading the “footage” only showed a picture of the first frame of the video and a message saying that they could not be played. This was the medium wrench, as it could potentially be fixed through some correcting software or what not. I didn’t get many videos, maybe fourteen or so, which by looking at the time stamps between them also tells me that the videos were not in fact on the right length setting. This is a fairly easy fix; the big problem, however, is that by looking at the first frame of each clip I can see that they started recording because a person moved in the frame. I checked afterwards and both cameras are set to the highest sensitivity to movement, which means that I don’t think the cameras can detect the often slow movements performed by our little friends. Quite the issue as you can probably imagine. I didn’t have time to wait for a response from my advisors on what to do next before I had to go to work, so I just set them back up how they were and left. We’ll see what happens going forward.
Thanks for reading, I’ll see you all next week.
