The horrors of my own project

Samantha g -

Hi, a lot of stuff happened this week so get ready.

My last post ended on doing, worms, spiders, and tin foil. Whelp this week I have been doing spiders (I’m almost done with this part but I forgot to take a picture of all of it so just imagine the spiders on the outside of the leg on the inside of the leg and that is what it looks like). I also started to give the worms coming out of Anthony’s right leg texture.

I also added texture to the one on the top left and started but didn’t finish on the one on the bottom.

I started to add the skin texture to the back of Derek and I will add that I was not sure if I liked it for probably the entire week until I added on some eyes. I still might change it a little bit though.

Before you scroll more TRIGGER WARNIG

I did finally finish one part of the sculpture, the trypophobia part. I will be showing a picture of the finished product so if you don’t like a bunch of holes maybe skip this part.

I added on some really malleable clay to give some more texture until I cut so many holes into it to give it that ick look.

I have just been doing that for the past week so there is not much to update on but I do have some funny stories. Two. I have Two funny stories.

The first story is my brother came back from traveling (not the brother that I kept measuring, another one) and didn’t know about Anthony and Derek. So he was walking in the garage and got so scared by them. It was really funny!

The second story was I was working on finishing the trypophobia part and I looked down, on the wood frame right next to me was a really big spider. I screamed bloody murder and jumped like two feet back. My first thought was to panic. My second thought was to call my mom and panic to her. I didn’t know what to do and my mom was not helping because she was just laughing at me. After like 5 minutes of panicking my brother came back (the one that I kept measuring) and he brought it outside. terrible experience. 0/10 would not do it again.

The spider in question.

Anyway, hopefully I can start doing other things this week and thanks for following along.

Your sculpture is looking so beautiful and terrifying! I can’t wait to see the final product. That spider looks so cute I’m sorry he scared you though.

The trypophobia part looks awesome (as does everything else.)

The texture on Derek's back...what phobia does that represent? Your attention to detail is immaculate - wow!

That texture doesn't really represent a phobia, or at least I didn't intend it to. I kind of just wanted to make Derek even more gross and icky. Although, the eyes represent Scopophobia which is the fear of being watched. Thank you! I'm really trying to put as much detail as I can without going even more insane.

The amount of detail in each part is amazing! Does Derek as a whole represent anything beyond representing multiple phobias? Thanks!

Sorry, this is me, not sure why it's displayed as anonymous

It has done that to me so many times. Thank you! And as a matter of fact he does. My thought process as I have mentioned before was everything in front of the door frame is more humanoid and everything behind is more monster. I wanted to do this to show the humanity within Anthony, It's like Anthony is trying to run away form this monster (Derek) forming on his back and basically consuming him in the process. Anthony is trying to maintain his humanity the best he can and Derek is trying to take it away and forcefully rip it from him. That's not concerning at all :). Hope that made sense.

Sam, this has blown every single one of my expectations far faaar out of the water. To say I am impressed is an understatement. I love how after all the time you've spent making spiders, seeing one is still so frightening.

Thank you so much! And yes, still do not like spiders. It was the fact that it was right next to me for who knows how long and menacingly moving around in a circle (also it was really big so). The spiders I made are fine, don't love them but I can tolerate it. My friend also said I have the worst luck with spiders, I find every single one and get scared every time.

Hey Sam, your detailing looks amazing! How did you do the detailing? Also, this is somewhat horror-adjacent, but have you heard of the SCP Foundation? It's a community-based writing group focused on anomalies and oddities. The thing I want to focus on is a religious group of people called the Sarkites. They are a people who revolve around the ability of carnomancy, flesh manipulation. There is a lot of art about them, most of which falls into two categories: horrific or religious. Your detailing reminded me of them, and it might interest you.

Thanks, I'll definitely check that out! It's a lot of wormy shaped noodles and I put them in the places that I want then use a tool to smooth it out.
