Week 6: Research continues

Elliot D -

Howdy blog people! Hope everyone’s having a good day.

The past week has been more research heavy. I finally got one of my books from MLK, Dance of Days, so I’ve been slowly working through that. I’ve also been looking through ideas as to what to put into my final product, which I’m currently planning to make a zine. As I do more research and do more work, ideas pop up but I’m not sure how well they’ll all fit together, or even if I need them to fit together all that well.

One big piece has started coming together, with my first interview having been conducted on Friday! I came in a little worried I’d be short on material, but it ended up lasting an hour and 45 minutes! I’ve been spending the past couple days transcribing and editing it, which is definitely a painstaking process, but one that I find pretty interesting to do! It was a really fun conversation and I gained a lot of insight and ideas moving forward from it. I have two more in the works, but we’re still trying to figure out scheduling.

Coming up I’m going to be doing some onsite work on Thursday and participating in a meeting about an upcoming exhibit. on Friday I’ll be shadowing sound for a harsh noise show, which should definitely be interesting as it’ll likely be more complex than the typical vocals only into the P.A.

Not too much going on but still a productive week for me! this week’s album recommendation comes from an inspiration at work rather than a direct connection to what I’m doing. It’s “On” by Dutch-Turkish psych-rock band Altın Gün. A great modern entry point into Anatolian rock if you ask me!

The interview sounds amazing (an hour and 45!!). I'm glad to read that you're enjoying your internship. It sounds like you have lots of ideas for your final project, which is really great. I can't wait to hear more about it.

Love the energy in this post—it’s clear you’re diving deep into your project in a way that’s both thoughtful and creatively open-ended. The zine idea sounds like a perfect format for the kind of layered, exploratory work you’re doing, and that first interview sounds like a major win (1 hour and 45 minutes—wow!). I really appreciate how you’re letting the pieces evolve naturally rather than forcing them to fit a mold. Also, thanks for the album rec—always down to expand my playlist with something unexpected!
