Week 10 – Wrapping Things Up
James H -
Hello again readers! We have made it to the final week! Thank you so much for following along with me on this journey, it has certainly been an experience I won’t soon forget. Although this will be my last blog post, I’m not quite done with my senior project work just yet. I’m still polishing the details of my final product and presentation, and I have another week left in the lab. I am so excited to be able to share my work with you all, and I hope that anyone reading this right now will be able to watch me present at the showcase! I know it’s sad that the blogs are ending, but you probably won’t be missing too much new content from me. It seems like I’ll just be doing my usual work within the lab and on my project in the upcoming weeks. I’d like to use this blog to reflect on what I’ve done leading up to this point.
First, i have to look back in time all the way to the beginning of the school year. Around the time classes were beginning, I was simultaneously vying for a spot in an NIH lab. That might sound more intense than it is, in reality I just had to reach out to principal investigators, the leader of a lab, and hope for a response. Luckily, I did! A few months later, everything was finalized and I would begin working in the lab in March. I did run into some issues due to administrative changes at the NIH, but it all worked out in the end. For my project, I was pretty set on doing something related to healthcare disparities. I tried out a few ideas, but landed on LGBTQIA+ issues. I ultimately chose to focus on cancer to connect it a bit more with my internship, which is with the National Cancer Institute of the NIH.
I have truly appreciated everything I’ve learned from senior project and the research process. I can’t believe I’m already closing out my last blog. Again, I hope to see you all for my presentation!
