Wrapping It Up!
Sophia D -
Hi everyone! This week was the last official week of my internship at the lab. I would like to thank Dr. Goldman for the opportunity to work at his lab as well as my mentors Adrian and Daniel for guiding me through all my experiments. I also want to thank all my peers in the lab for their support and for welcoming me and showing me the ropes. I am also happy to announce that I will continue working at his lab as I pursue my undergraduate degree at the UofA!
During my senior project, I had an incredible time learning about lab protocols, cardiac anatomy and physiology, and how a novel therapy can apply to skeletal muscle.
This week at the lab I was able to present the draft of my senior project presentation at our weekly lab meeting and received great feedback from everyone. I also shared my presentation and findings with Ms. Sanders. It was really nice to look back and see all the work I’ve done over the past couple months and put many pieces of the puzzle together! I can’t wait to present my findings at the senior project showcase next Saturday.
My biggest advice to all of you who will be in my position soon is to look for a project that you feel passionate about. I worked very hard since last year to show my interest in the Goldman lab and had to show Dr. Goldman that I was committed in joining his group no matter how much time it took me to establish my credibility. Once you find a project you love, learn from those around you and be curious about everything you are exposed to. Don’t feel shy to ask questions and challenge yourself. Be professional and know that the if you show interest, people will respect you and welcome you.
I hope to see you at the senior presentations!
