“Does it ever drive you crazy / Just how fast the night changes?” – One Direction, Night Changes

Hello Blogosphere!

This week post-New York has been hectic, yet insightful. I spent my time there often reflecting on this project and the journey we’ve been a part of through music. The city inspired me to make some crucial moves on the EP. One of the major decisions I have made is coming up with cover art and a title. This has proven to be challenging since I realized most of my songs stood stronger on their own rather than as a part of a collective album, but with the weight of a demo EP, the title and cover has more room for creativity and a loose thread between individual tracks.

Speaking of tracks, I’m very pleased to announce that I have come up with my favorite (!!!) 6 tracks for the EP and am working on the mixing process. That is to say, I finished tracking! This was such a long, drawn out process, but ultimately it taught me a lot about time management in the creative world. Unlike the academic experiences I’ve had for the last 12 years, creative projects cannot be procrastinated or rushed if you want a solid, sound body of work at the end. As such, I’ve had to pull many all-nighters and long days in my home studio tracking, and re-tracking, and re-tracking again. However, I’m ecstatic with the way things are turning out!

As we begin to wrap things up, my goal for this week is to mix, mix, and mix! I also want to make an Instagram post announcing the EP by next Tuesday, as well as finalize the back cover/tracklist format for the CDs. Next week, prepare to learn about the logistics of CD burning and vinyl printing!

Take care and be well,

Mikyle

Sounds like a rewarding process! Did anything in particular from your experience in New York inspire the title and cover art of the EP?

Hey Evie, I was really just inspired by the energy of the city and overall musical feel. From seeing people playing music on the subway to dancing in the street, the city definitely runs on music! It made me push forward even through the hardships of the album and find joy in music.
