2/12/25- MRI Insights: Decoding Prostate Cancer

Marina B -

Hi everyone!

I hope you are all doing well! Today, I wanted to dive a little deeper into my research project and give you all an update on how things are progressing, as well as what I expect the next few months to look like.

I’ve been fortunate to work with a fantastic team, and I’ll be analyzing MRI data from prostate cancer patients. Specifically, I’m focusing on the differences in detection between men who have had prior benign biopsies and those who have no history of prostate cancer. Dr. Tan is guiding this research, and so far, the patient data has been extracted. My role will be to analyze these results and ultimately write a paper based on my findings. The goal is to better understand how prior biopsies may affect the detection and diagnosis of prostate cancer, which could lead to more accurate methods in the future.

In terms of my work setup, I’ll be splitting my time between the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale campus (occasionally the Phoenix campus) and working from home. This week has been a bit of a slow start as I’ve been focused on completing training modules and onboarding steps to ensure I am fully prepared for the tasks ahead. However, starting today, I’ll be doing a further literature search to deepen my understanding of the research topic. I’m looking forward to reviewing past studies, seeing how they align with my project, and identifying areas where my work could potentially make a meaningful contribution.

I’m really excited about this project and can’t wait to share more updates with you along the way!

Thanks for reading,

Marina Braggio
