Week 4: CAD Workshop

Nathan S -

Hello everyone! This week was the Amazon test. It was exciting at first to be able to see what they do to check that their project is going how they want, but after a while it became a little bit monotonous. Each person had a really long checklist that had every little thing get checked. This, of course, makes sense to do in order to ensure they are getting a quality product, but some were so small they seemed inconsequential to the machine. I was also surprised by how human the people were. I know that sounds weird, but I had an idea in my mind of a very sterile group who came in and didn’t say a word other than what was needed to do their job. Of course, they were actually normal people who were just trying to get their test done.

  • I also started actually designing something in Fusion360. I made a bracket for an overhead projector. It’s pretty simple, but it is interesting to me how even this simple metal sheet needed a lot of measurements and time. Much of the time needed was because I was making mistakes though, so I imagine somebody with experience could make this in a couple minutes. Hopefully soon I will be able to make this in a couple minutes

Plate

I also made a schematic of the plate using Fusion360. It was much easier than I thought, and I only had to add in a couple dimensions to an automatically generated schematic, although it is a little cluttered with many dimensions. Soon I will try to learn how to make schematics with limited dimensions, which will help clean them up. Next week I will be cutting and drilling holes in the plate using the schematic. I am looking forward to learning how to use the machine tools.
