Week 3: Earth’s Biggest Bookstore

-

This week I finished up the control panels. Wiring them was difficult and tedious at first, but I was able to work much more quickly this week, and only made one mistake on the last panel, which is a large improvement. I felt like I learned a lot from them. I am a little sad that Tyler, the person who helped me learn about the control panels and about the project in general, will be leaving this week. Next week is the factory assessment test, where Amazon will come and make sure the product is up to their standard, and after that, they will give the green light to deliver the whole system. I think this will be a unique experience, and I am excited to be there for it. It was fun to see everybody buttoning up all the loose ends this week to get everything ready for the test.

I also started working in Fusion360, and although I am still just learning how to navigate the program, I am now able to have some fun in it. This is something I made, although it has no use or purpose.

Useless Thing I Made

I spent some time with a machinist this week, and it was really cool to see how the logistics of the machine shop work. For the CNC machines, a lot of the time making the parts is spent just programming the machine, and in cases where you only have to make a few parts, a manual machine can even be faster. As far as my part goes, I hope to start making first designs next week, but I might be watching the Amazon testing instead, or being with a machinist, which I would also enjoy. I am excited for whatever the next week holds, and very thankful that I am able to have these new experiences.
