Week 10: In the end, we can only learn so much

Gianna F -

Dear readers,

Thank you for coming along with me these past ten weeks. I truly appreciate everyone’s support of my podcast, and it has been so inspiring watching everyone tackle their passion project and develop something wonderful! I am looking forward to watching everyone’s presentation!

Also, I would like to invite everyone and anyone who has been a part of my journey to come watch my presentation on May 9th at 6:30 pm!

With love,

Gianna

Beyond my love letter, I want to discuss my week with you guys. This week I interviewed “The Porch” and “Campgrounds Coffee.” Both of these businesses are super involved in the community and it was a great opportunity to meet with both of them. An amazing husband-wife team tackles the Porch. Jesse said he was more of the visionary who “full sprints” into his goals while Rudy is more detail-oriented and focuses on their finances. The business is 4 years old (you would be surprised how many businesses started in 2022) since Jesse bought it. The Porch has been here for a while, but Jesse has brought it to the point where it is today. Their motto is “We’re more than a coffee shop” which I certainly agree with. I don’t know how many of you have been there, but it is an amazing community! The staff takes the time to learn your name and have meaningful conversations with you. My dad is there 4 days a week for hours a day either participating in meetings or getting his work done, so when I went to ask for an interview it was like I was a celebrity’s daughter. It is truly a great atmosphere!

Joe at Campgrounds also had a great story. He said the first day he made $12 and now his CPA is advising him to file as an S-corp (and while he didn’t tell me his gross income, usually you change your LLC to an S-corp when you make more than $80,000). I believe having the model of a mobile camper is super beneficial financially, but Joe mentioned how he hopes to have a brick-and-mortar shop so he can provide a greater space for the community.

Just because my blogs have ended, my work has not. I have 3 to 4 businesses I hope to interview next week and a few CPAs I would like to get insight from! Thank you again, everyone, and good luck!

Hi G! I am so sad that your project is ending but I can't wait to check into your future podcast episodes! With S Corps, I have heard that there are tax benefits but never knew exactly what they were. Do you know what tax benefits come from S corps by chance?

Hi Zoey! One thing I have learned along this journey, is that the way you choose to file for taxes is highly dependent on your situation. However, in my research, I found that filing as an S-corp has a smaller self employment tax!
