Spread the Word! – Blog 3

Moorea C -

Hey everyone! I hope you all are having a wonderful day 🙂 For this week’s blog, I am going to be highlighting the process of creating my surveys and spreading the word on my project!

I started off the week by creating my survey which I will link down below. The survey is for elementary educators that have experience teaching students about environmental topics and asks questions about their experience in the classroom. Because the purpose of it is to be as similar as possible to my interviews, the survey includes all the same questions I would ask in an interview in a mixed format of multiple-choice and free response questions. Once I finished formatting the survey, I started working on the process of spreading the word on my project by taking advantage of this generations social media outlet.

Because of my experience running social media accounts on Instagram, I decided I would start my endeavor using that platform. I designed a fun little logo for the project to use as my branding and opened up a public business account, @teaching_green2025, where I plan to post updates about my project and the links to my survey and blogs. So far, I have created two posts for the page: the first as an introduction/summary to myself and my project, and the second specifically for my survey. I then started working on opening a public Facebook account as well, but because I am not as familiar with the app I still have a bit to go with figuring that out and will work on it more next week. I also created a flyer with a QR Code that sends you directly to the survey and some information on my project to print and put up in areas like public libraries and throughout Los Angeles (more on this next week).

Last but not least, this week I also did a lot of research on Waldorf curriculum, which focuses on teaching kids about the natural world, as well as general elementary curriculum to help prepare me for my upcoming trip to Southern California. I will be leaving early in the morning on Saturday Feb. 22nd and will be driving back home Wednesday Feb. 26th. During my trip, I will be completing research and touring/interviewing a Waldorf school!

Thanks so much for reading, and check back next week for a look into my time in California!

That is a really great idea and I cam curious to see how much traffic you get from the social media push. I'm also looking forward to hearing how your California adventures go. Keep up the good work and safe travels.

Do you have any personal experience with an environmental or waldorf curriculum? I hear a lot about both in the area, but I am curious to see how well they cover these topics.

How interesting, Moorea! Thank you for posting the link to the survey, as well as the Instagram page you made. I will be curious to see how many responses you get, and what they will contain. Also, the design you made is pretty good.

Great question Jussynda. From pre-school to 6th grade I went to a Montessori school in California where they would teach the kids a bit about environmental topics. Montessori curriculum isn't as focused on the environment as Waldorf curriculum is so the teachers didn't have a heavy focus on it in the classroom, but I do have a little bit of experience there. From what I've noticed, majority of schools that brand themselves as a school that teaches environmental education do tend to stick to that claim.

That is a great way to find more people! Your designs are very vibrant and eye catching. I'm curious to see how many people you get from social media and their responses. Did all the places you asked to put up flyers allow you to?
