Week 9

-

Hey everyone! This past week was a continuation of my final preparation to present my findings. This includes wrapping up my data analysis, comparing my findings to prior literature, and also writing out the limitations, implications, and directions for future research. Regarding the timeline for my research project from now, I’ll be presenting my final College Board presentation and submitting my academic paper some time in the next 2 weeks.

One of the most rewarding parts of my project after collecting all of my data has been the qualitative analysis. Through that, I was able to know the impact that it had on kids and families’ day-to-day lives. As an example, here’s a quote from the mom of one of the study participants: “Well, I think [the car] helped in a lot of areas. First, confidence was the number one. Just that I think and figuring things out, like problem-solving. Figuring all of the parts of the car out has helped him, he doesn’t get as frustrated. Even in PT, he’s done great, like unbelievably well in the past few weeks, and in OT with using his hands as well.”

Prior to beginning my study, I was unsure if these cars would even have an impact over such a short timespan. However, each parent confidently stated that these cars not only impacted their child’s development towards independence while driving, but also while pursuing other day-to-day tasks.
