Week 8

Marcos V -

Hello and welcome to week 8 of my senior project!

The future is grim. After hours of searching, exploring, querying, examining past projects and datasets, my efforts have borne no fruit. I am simply unable to find any polarization data that I could use to measure the strength or structure of magnetic fields in and around V Hydrae’s plasma ejections.

Finding suitable data has been my most significant roadblock over the course of this project. I don’t have a good idea as to why no one wants to take polarization images of the system, but it seems to be the common trend. It has occurred to me that this project might have been more at a university level in terms of difficulty, as gathering my own data is essential to carrying out the project in the way I had originally envisioned.

Nonetheless, there is nothing I can do about it now. I will do what I can with the data that is available to me, which is Stokes I or intensity data with no polarization. That said, I am exploring the possibility of continuing this research project in the summer, potentially gathering the data I need and putting out a revised and expanded version of the research paper I will submit at the end of this project. As always, thank you for reading, and feel free to ask any questions!
