Week 8: Writing, writing, and more writing!

Aashi H -

Hello everyone, welcome back! This week, I have been working on my paper. Below is an outline for what I am writing in my paper:

  • Literature Review
    • Music Medicine
    • Stress in Fast-food Industry (QSRs)
  • Gap: Medicinal music FOR stress in QSRs
  • Method: Questionnaire + Content + Restaurants Chosen
    • Perceived Stress Scale – 10
    • Recall prompt
    • Music genres/songs chosen
  • Analysis: t-test, Graphs
    • Mention trends
  • Discussion
    • Trend 1
    • Trend 2
    • Trend 3
    • Qualitative Data
  • Limitations (ex: small sample size, particular restaurants, certain demographics, etc)
  • Future Implications
  • Conclusion

I have also started looking for presentation templates. I plan for the presentation to include a more personal touch, mentioning my purpose of doing the project and my background. I will also touch on my experience at the MIM and any difficulties I had to overcome over the course of this project.

In other news, I am almost to 30 responses in my questionnaire! This is just enough to fully generalize my results and draw conclusions in my paper. Additionally, this weekend is a very exciting week for the MIM. It is the 15th anniversary celebration, and the museum has tons of events planned, from the LA Children’s Choir to a scavenger hunt! It is such a fun celebration, and I highly recommend you check it out if you can!

That’s all for this week! Next week, I will share the trends I am seeing in my data, as well as some insights into my presentation. Additionally, I want to give a big, BIG thank you to everyone who has supported me so far through this project! Thank you to Mr. Bushee, Dr. Goodwin, Dr. Kumar, and the many more people who have made this project possible.

See you all next week!

Hi Aashi, I like where your project is headed! The paper outline looks very well thought out. What are some of the future implications for your project that you will discuss?

Thanks for the question, Rohan! My project hopes to show that music does, in fact, have a positive impact on employees' mental health. Therefore, employers should allow more flexibility in allowing employees to choose music playing in the store or letting them listen with AirPods (whichever is more feasible). This will allow for happier employees, leading to a soar in productivity and business for the overall company.

Hi Aashi, sounds like such a fun event to be a part of! Have you thought about how you may present your findings from the questionnaire visually?

Thank you for the question, Ms. Bennett! I have actually spent all week putting my responses into graphs that I will display in my next blog post. I used side-by-side bar graphs to show the trend in the data.
