Week 7

Prerna K -

Hey guys! This week I’m going to talk about my interviews!

Athletes could sign up for the interviews through the survey. But to keep survey responses anonymous, a separate link was attached to the survey for athletes to open and sign up for the interview. They were asked to sign a second consent form, and provide their name and email for me to contact them.

I conducted interviews with 10 different athletes. Each interview was just about 10-15 minutes, and my survey consisted of 14 questions along with the background questions that were in the survey. The background questions served as a reflection for the athletes to retrace their memory surrounding their injury and recovery experience.

Some common trends that I saw within the interview responses were towards the athletes motivation to return, behavior changes, and fear of re-injury. So for motivations, majority of the athletes claimed that their love for their sport was a prominent reason as to their return along with the hope to retain ability. Common behavior changes were overall mind fulness towards their general physical health and understanding causes towards their injury and injury prevention. Fear of re injury was a common behavior experienced by all. It was more of a reoccurring experience when they initially returned, along with more aggressive or more stress put on the injured part of their body. But as time went on, their fear of injury disappeared as they gained back confidence to playing to the same effort as they did prior to the injury,

Thanks everyone!
