Hi everyone! I am Ishan Bansal and my senior project is called AI Business Location Finder. Small businesses contribute greatly to both the economy and community and can be classified by income, number of employees, or other metrics. For my project, a small business will be defined as a business projected to have less than 250 employees. The goal of my project is to train an AI model to help businesses decide where they want to open their business. I wanted to conduct this research project as I believe it can be tough for people to decide on a location themselves. There are many factors that contribute to a location being suitable or not, and it can be tough for a human to analyze all these factors to decide which location will be best. An AI model can make this task easier, as it can assess all the data and give users a list of locations to research based on the target market for the business.
The main questions I will be trying to answer are: Can AI be used to help prospective business owners choose a satisfactory district? What factors go into picking a location? How does the projected size of a business impact picking a location? How does a human choose a location?
I already have some prior experience with working with AI, but most of my experience comes with training computer vision model. For this project, I will need to train a classification or regression model off of tabular data. Most likely, I will be using a regression model as the model should output a ranking of top 3 best locations rather than a single best location. Business owners have their own preferences of where they want to open their business, but they may have multiple possible areas. This tool is not meant to be a final say of where they should open their business, but a tool meant to make the choice easier.
