Introduction

Hello, welcome to my project on investigating the role of ATF6 and ANP imbalances in the development of cardiovascular diseases. I will be working with Dr. Glembotski at the University of Arizona’s college of medicine under a directed study mentorship with the advising of Dr. Carpenter and the counseling of Mrs. Bennett.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are one of the world’s leading causes of death. As such,
research relating to cardiovascular disease is always crucial for the development of treatment for
CVDs. In my project, I will be researching the role of ATF6 and ANP imbalances in causing
CVDs. By doing this, should any major findings come to light, it will be a major step in
developing vital treatment by targeting this aspect of CVD development.
My hypothesis is of course that the development of CVDs are directly tied to ATF6 and
ANP imbalances. To reach a conclusion to this hypothesis, I have to answer the main question:
Do ATF6 and ANP play a role in contracting CVDs? Why, and to what extent?

In order to research this, Dr. Glembotski be helping me by assigning me readings on the basics of cellular and molecular biology, as well as teaching me proper lab techniques that he uses in his labs regularly. I will then be joining the lab under the mentorship of one of the researchers, and will begin shadowing and finally joining the lab.

If you have any questions or comments or concerns about my project, feel free to leave your comments below, and I look forward to researching this topic in the future.
