Fourth Update
Ryan S -
Hello everyone!
I met with my site placement again recently hoping to further study where I left off last post. Unfortunately, I was not able to interact with more student instructors, as the class was not in session, and I was not able to catch any stray students. However, I was able to talk again with a few of the same instructors I had talked to previously.
As I had already talked with them before, I did not get much new information, however I did learn a few things. Instructors themselves have other instructor buddies that they talk to at and away from the school, and although it can be seen as rude, they talk about the students they have in a not so friendly matter. Thankfully (at least to my knowledge), they do not slander or rudely talk about their students. Instead, they discuss issues they have had with their students, whether it be the students’ fault or not. Examples include the student not doing flight plans or bringing important papers or with them during a test flight (students’ fault), or a different instructor teaching a wrong method.
The biggest conclusion I can draw from this is that other instructors are able to indirectly learn from each other, which may also benefit students themselves. If instructors can learn from the mistakes and incorrect teachings of other instructors, they can not only help correct the student, but also have the potential to prevent a future critical mistake. If a student is taught, for example, the wrong limitation standards of an aircraft, they could be flying the aircraft in dangerous conditions with the potential for disaster. I hope to further pursue the social aspect of instructors and how it could impact a student’s training like this.
