First Post – Student Pilot Research
Ryan S -
Since becoming an airline pilot is my ultimate career goal, I’ve decided to revolve my research project around the journey of student pilots as they train to become private pilots. Being a student pilot myself, I’ve experienced hours of training and flight time, attempting to fully absorb every ounce of information thrown at me. Although training is thorough and intense, pilots are still prone to making mistakes – with student pilots being the most susceptible.
I hope to study overall how student pilots are trained, finding reoccurring issues/mistakes, and then finding a way to correct them. Of course, this is easier said than done. I hope that at my site placement, and my current school, Sierra Charlie Aviation, I would be able to collect information regarding instructors and their students – any issues in lesson application, failed areas in both practical and applied tests, or any misconduct during any phase of training – any area that is seen as unsafe or unsatisfactory needs to be corrected for a pilot to succeed. I want to study this to not only help other student pilots succeed and fly safer, but to also apply what I learn to myself to better my future as a pilot.
Using this information from my site placement and outside research, I want to create either a collective lesson or method or maybe correct/update current lessons taught to student pilots, helping aid student pilots in their pursuit to become private pilots and increasing not only the success rate, but also the student pilot’s safety.
