Finished

-

Hi guys this is my final blog post with just an overview of my journey with this project. I feel like it was over pretty quickly but I also feel like I was able to do a lot with this project even if it wasn’t anything like I imagined it would be when I first started working on it.

When I started this project I wanted to try and research how injections impact the patients and how that impacts a patient’s compliance with their treatment plan. However after around two weeks of researching I decided to pivot and stop worrying about how I would try and figure out the compliance and just research how these injections impact the lives of the patients who get them. I originally only started this project with AMD in mind for these injections but while researching with ARC they actually were able to get an IRB expansion to allow us to interview any patient getting an injection that fit the criteria of 3 injections in the past year with an injection that day. As I started to wrap up my own surveys I had to think more about my data which I finally finished analyzing last week.

While my results were great with all patients saying injections were worth the preservation of their vision, that the injections were either stopping the deterioration of their vision or drastically improving it. I also found that patients find that the burdens of their current vision loss due to AMD heavily outweighs any burdens due to the injection appointment such as the very long wait times. I also finished all the little details of my final product, my pamphlet, and my PowerPoint presentation so I am ready to present to everyone on Thursday this week.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with this project, specifically Madame Owanga, Dr. Carpenter, Ms. Bennett, Dr. Welch, Dr. Kirk, and the rest of BASIS and ARC that aided me in completing this project.

That is all I have for this post so thanks to everyone who read my blog.
