Coding and Algorithms For Media Analysis
Mihika G -
This week, I’ve been looking into ways to actually conduct the media analysis required for my research. The only feasible way to do so is through writing a code that can track and flag key words that show evidence of gender marking. Doing so manually would be flawed for a few reasons:
- Bias Human bias would always be present. Also, the human factor can introduce variables like fatigue, which can lead to missing data points.
- Time-Data Balance This would just take a lot of time, which would be better invested into learning how to write a code that would save a large portion of this time in the long run.
- Internet Bias Google search algorithms inherently have bias present in them.
As I briefly mentioned above, I will have to invest some time into learning about efficient ways to code since I don’t have much experience with this. I am presently looking into Google Colab, which seems to offer a good balance between simplicity for beginners and efficiency for research purposes.
