Background on Google Trends
In this post I want to explain more on how google trends works:
In order to analyze the amount of interest each of the two cities has, google trends will be used to determine this data. Google Trends is a Free online internet tool that analyzes the popularity of search terms throughout time. The popularity of the searches can be filtered through time, season and location. For the purpose of this research I will be narrowing the location to the two cities of Tucson and Phoenix. The terms I will be using have a connection to the topic of droughts and water conservation. However the graphs depicted on google trends aren’t depicting the exact number of searches that each term has gotten through that period of time. The numbers that are represented on the graph are relative to the highest point on the chart for the given time period and place selected. The number is scaled from 1-100. The value of 100 is the peak popularity for the term. A value of 50 means that the term is half as popular then when the search term has reached peak popularity in that time period.
This is one of the limitations of my project since google trends is not able to give me the exact number of searches per term.
