Week 7: Customer Service

Jack H -

Hey Readers and welcome back to the 7th week of blog where I am working as an outside service attendant at a local golf course, Oro Valley Country Club. This week, I will be going into depth on ways that we can improve customer satisfaction through good customer service.

Good customer service is important because it helps increase the customers time at the course, which is very important for people like guests or perspective members (people interested in joining the club) because it could lead to an increase of members at Oro Valley.

The most basic level of customer service that we can provide is just a simple greeting and engagement with the customer. No matter who it is, it is important to start a conversation with the customer incase they are too afraid to ask a question or ask one of us for help. Having conversations also increases the likelihood of the customer having a good time due to the fact that sometimes a conversation can make someone’s day.

There are also more complicated levels of customer service that we can provide to customers. These include cleaning clubs if needed, helping load push carts on a golf cart, getting a member a bottle of water, or even just giving them a ride out to the parking lot to save them time and trip back to the main staging area. All of these tasks are very simple for us employees to do, but are extremely  helpful in increasing customer satisfaction of there time at the course.

Jack, what do you think of the phrase "the customer is always right?" Does that apply in a golf course?

I think in general it is mostly true, unless you have a way to show that you right. I also do think that my job at OVCC is focused on customer service that is less knowledge oriented, such as being able to know where a product is in a store, but more so being able to handle customers requests.
