Project Title: Teeing Up for Business: An Inside Look at Golf Course Operations BASIS Advisor: Lukas Adams Internship Location: Oro Valley County Club Onsite Mentor: Parker Witt, Supervisor of Outside Services |
Project Abstract
The golf industry has experienced unprecedented growth in recent years, with the pandemic creating a surge in participation and business opportunities. This project explores the operational mechanics of golf course management through hands-on experience at Oro Valley Country Club, investigating how various service roles contribute to overall facility success. As an outside service attendant, I will document and analyze the complex systems that support daily operations, from practice facility maintenance to customer service protocols. Working under the guidance of Parker Witt, Supervisor of Outside Services, I will examine how each operational component—cart fleet management, range maintenance, and member services—contributes to both customer satisfaction and business profitability. Through systematic observation and direct participation in daily operations, I aim to develop a comprehensive understanding of golf facility management while building practical business skills. This experience will provide valuable insight into the golf industry's business model as I prepare for undergraduate studies in Business Administration and a future career in golf course management. The project will culminate in a detailed analysis of operational best practices and their impact on facility success, contributing to the growing body of knowledge in modern golf course management.
