To fly or not to fly?

Sidd s -

Hello everyone, and welcome back to my senior project blog!

I’ve covered some distance on my pathway to getting my pilots license. On Friday, February 21st, I passed my FAA medical examination, and I now qualify to become a pilot, and can start flying! The exam consisted of a couple sight tests, colorblind tests, and some hearing tests as well. I received my medical certificate and will now begin flying as soon as I can! I’ve also been reading prep books to prepare for the FAA examination at the end of my project. It’s a six hour exam that consists of a writing section and an oral examination, so I’ll need to study profusely while I’m not flying.

As of today, the main course of action for me right now is to book my first flight, and start logging flight hours. The moment that I’ve been waiting for is finally here, and I could not be more excited about it! And don’t worry, I will not leave you guys on the ground!

Greetings Sidd! It's great that you got your medical certificate and can now start practicing flying. I was wondering though, what does the oral examination for the FAA examination that you mentioned consist of? Is it like an interview where they ask you why you want to become a pilot, or are they going to be asking you questions about stuff you need to know, kind of like a test? I look forward to seeing how you progress in the future!

Hi Joaquin! The oral examination focuses on theory and practical knowledge. For example, they ask questions about physics and the mathematical aspects of flying a plane. They also ask questions about flight planning, aviation regulations, and aircraft systems as well. It's a lot of content, but it's nothing I can't handle!

Congrats on passing your FAA medical exam! What part of your first flight are you looking forward to the most, and when do you think you'll be up in the air?

Sidd, I was so worried that you were going to fail your medical tests, so congratulations for passing! I am kidding of course, but that's really cool that you're one more step to starting to fly. A question for you; what is the first (or one of the first) things you will be doing for the writing section?

Hey Sidd! Congrats on passing your FAA medical examination! For your first flight, what exact type of plane do you anticipate/think you will be flying?

I'm looking forward to being able to put my flight knowledge to the test, as I've played so many simulators and have read a lot of material about aviation. I plan to be up in the air by the end of this week!

Hey Nico! To prepare for the writing session, I’m going to have to study the theory and mathematics regarding aviation. I've never been good at math, so I need to spend as much time as possible preparing.

Hello MJ! The plane I'll be flying is the Cessna 172S Skyhawk. It's a very solid plane, and I am excited to fly it!
