The Long-Awaited Day: Possible Delays, Flight Numbers, Film Camera, and More!

Ashwyn k -

Hello, readers!

This post is a little different from my usual Monday updates, but I’m finally flying to Nepal tonight! My journey will take over 24 hours, with multiple flights, layovers, and plenty of waiting, so I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to publish another blog post tomorrow. Another thing is that since my mobile provider is pretty much useless outside the U.S., I won’t have data at first. But I plan to get a local SIM card as soon as I can, so I’ll update you guys once that’s all figured out! For most of the week, I’ll be staying with my paternal grandparents, preparing for a special cultural ceremony called a Bratabandha. I’ll share more details about the ceremony once I’m in Nepal, so stay tuned for a new blog post on Tuesday or Wednesday!

As for my flight itinerary, I’ll be traveling from Phoenix to New York, New York to Qatar, and finally, Qatar to Nepal. The leg from New York to Qatar is a 14-hour haul, which I’m not exactly looking forward to. However, if you’d like to track my journey, here are my flight numbers:

PHX – JFK: AA 1587

JFK – DOH: QA 704

DOH – KTM: QA 646

This is the perfect time, if you haven’t already, to check out my instagram @ashwynclimbseverest, as I will be documenting all of my experiences in Nepal, and of course on Everest, on that account!

Finally, I actually got in contact with one of my friends who is lending me his film camera and 3 rolls of film for my trip, so once I return to Arizona I’ll be able to develop those and share them with you all!

Wish me luck, and I’ll see you all on the other side!

Hey, Ashwyn! I don't know if you'll be able to see this before you've finished your climb, but I'll ask my question anyway. What are you going to do for entertainment while resting on your climb? I'm assuming you won't have access to internet, so will you be playing with cards or just talking with people? Very excited for you to finally start your ascent!

Everyone here is rooting for you! Enjoy the Bratabandha ceremony, send photos of you participating in it if you can. Best of luck these days. Ramā'ilō garnuhōs ! Adam Engle

Hello Ashwyn! Good job with all the effort you put into training and preparation up until now. Wish you good luck with your journey! I don't know if you mentioned this before, but is there anyone else accompanying you on your journey (any friends or family members)? Enjoy the snow that isn't here in Arizona!

@jacob_p, thanks for the comment! I'm honestly not sure what I'm going to do for entertainment while resting. I believe some of the teahouses we stay in will have internet, but once we get higher up it'll likely become scarce. I do have a game on my phone that doesn't require data, but other than that I might see if I can just walk around and relax when at the teahouses. After all, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity so I might as well take in everything I can!

Hello, Rohit! Thanks for the best wishes. And to answer your question, yes I am going with my dad! It will be us two, a porter (who will go at their own pace), and a guide.

Thanks for the comment, Dina! I'm glad you're enjoying my posts on Instagram. I'm new to being active on any type of social media so it's definitely been tough at times, but it's really fun! I appreciate you always liking my stories, haha. Thanks for the support!
