Exploring the Skies

Sidd s -

Hi! My name is Siddharth Singh, and this is the first of many blog posts for my senior project. I chose this title because it definitely relates to what I’m doing- flying an airplane and exploring the skies. I’ve never actually flown an airplane before, but I have flown a lot in simulators and read and watched a lot of content regarding aviation and planes, so I’m no beginner when it comes to this. I’m very prepared for what’s to come in this project, and will keep you guys up to date every step of the way. My site placement is located at the Falcon Field airport in Mesa, and I’ll be doing everything from studying and taking practice exams to landing planes here, so there’s a lot of work to be done. However, I am looking forward to finally being able to get in the air and put my already existing flight knowledge to the true test: exploring the skies!

This sounds really interesting Sidd. I think it's great that you are starting to make progress to your pilot's license, and I love how you end this blog post with its title. I was just wondering though, what is the thing that you are most worried about with this process?

I'm really most worried about bad weather and not being able to fly as much as I want to. But, even then, a little bad weather never stopped me!

Sidd, would you ever consider becoming a CFI yourself, or do you want to become a commercial pilot, or a private one? This is a very unique senior project and I am excited to see how well you can fly at the end of the school year.

Hey Sidd, I like the idea and uniqueness of this project! Transitioning from simulators to real flying does seem like a big jump! My question for you is that, since you are just starting with hands-on flight training, what specific aspects of transitioning from simulators to real-world flying do you think will be the most challenging, and how do you plan to prepare for them? Can't wait to hear back!

Becoming a CFI is part of the pathway to becoming a commercial pilot, but that's later down the road. For the scope of this project, I will only be obtaining my private pilots license.

The simulators that I play are pretty realistic, but they can't ever compare to actually flying of course. I think the most challenging aspect will be the handling of the aircraft, specifically the environment of the the plane. I'll actually be in the cockpit, hearing the engine and the wind blowing past me, and while that can be thrilling, it can also be a little nerve-racking as well!!!

Hi, Sidd! What's your favorite airplane? I have a crush on the now-defunct Concorde. (I actually stole someone's Concorde stationery from a flight. Yes, I did.) MG

My favorite airplane is probably the Airbus A350, because its a new, state of the art plane that really fascinates me. Thanks for the question!

Hi Sidd! It’s cool that you’re finally taking your flight knowledge from simulators to the real thing. Falcon Field seems like a solid place to learn—can’t wait to hear about your first time actually flying. What part of the flying are you most excited for?
