Me V. Computer: Saga Continued

Catherine f -

Hello!

It’s been really interesting figuring out what interview answers I want to include and where to insert them. I want to make sure they add something to the documentary overall, and so I have been messing around quite a bit with placement. This of course means that my computer has once again become my worst enemy.

My first issue was my fault and easy to solve. I learned a hot key that allows me to select a specific portion of the clips and audio while leaving the rest unselected. It is much easier than the initial way I tried to do it, which was by pressing CTRL+A to select everything and then going and individually deselecting every piece of audio and clips that I did not want to move.

The second issue is the fault of my computer which suddenly decided to not record audio despite having done it twice about ten minutes prior.

(Begging my computer to function)

It eventually worked but adobe premier unfortunately takes a lot and my computer occasionally freezes and panicks when I have any other tabs open.

That above picture was also me begging it to save as it struggled with that a few weeks ago.

In better news, I have completed one more interview!

I completed one more interview on Sunday and have two more lined up this week. My last interview went really well and my interviewee gave really in depth answers. This is great but also means it will be even harder to figure out what I want included in the documentary. I have some minor fixes to make to the visuals in the documentary but other than that I am mostly doing interviews and editing them into the project.

Thank you for reading! More updates and possibly a fun fact next week!

Hi Catie! I remember you mentioned that each interview is anywhere from 5-18 minutes long, but I was wondering how long the individual clips you're creating are?

Hi Katie! It depends on the person’s answer and the section. For example, in the beginning of the documentary I am showing short clips of each person saying what their first memorable experience with horror was. Then in different sections I’ll put a person’s entire answer which is on average probably no more than a minute or two but it still depends on how long the answer was and what the response consisted of.

I empathize with the technology fails. The website I was working on decide to delete several hours of citations Saturday. Besides interviews, what else do you have left to do for your documentary?

Mostly just editing in interviews which takes an unfortunately long time. I’m also adding in background music and then I have to clean up some of the audio and visuals but I’m saving that for last.

Hi Catie! I'm sorry about all the technology problems! As someone who chronically presses save out of fear, I understand the fear of things not saving. About how long does it take you to go through and edit one interview?
      catherine_f
Hi Cindy! It depends on the length of the interviews and how they answer questions. The first interview I used was very short and the questions had very short responses so it took a little under an hour to decide what clips I wanted and insert them in. One of my recent interviews, however, was about 18 minutes and the responses to the questions were long and very thought out so I’m having a much harder time clipping it.

Hi Catie! You might have mentioned it before, but how many total interviews are you aiming for. Thanks!
