Week 4: Goodbye Tucson, Hello Statistics

**To stay consistent with my peers, this blog update will discuss my experiences during the fourth week of my internship (February 24 to February 28)**

Hello, everyone! Welcome to Week 4 of my internship — my final week of in-person internship work in Tucson.

This week marked the completion of all my experiments, and we successfully recorded the results. Some of the plates from last week, which we had to redo, still presented issues with uneven, unscorable zones. After a final round of redo plates, we managed to obtain usable results. While there are still a few plates that didn’t produce recordable outcomes, these won’t significantly impact my final analysis, because we had preemptively ensured we had replicates in the experiments (we were testing multiple strains for a given bacteria plus multiple wells per plate).

On my last day at the lab, I also had the chance to share some key observations from my experiments during a lab meeting. I received advice and feedback from various lab members on my plans to analyze and present my results. Going forward, I will keep this advice in mind, along with further guidance from my mentors, as I continue developing my research paper and presentation remotely over the next few months.

As I packed up my things and prepared to say goodbye to Tucson, I found myself reflecting on the whirlwind of the past four weeks. I am sad to be parting ways with Tucson and the lab, but am eager to return home and dive into the next stage of my project. Above all, I am grateful for all I have learned and experienced during my internship. A big thank you to all the mentors that made this possible! See you all next week, where I will share some key observations from my experiments!
