Week 3: Exploring Demographic Trends and Continuing my Research

Elena M - April 1, 2025 9:58 pm

Welcome back!

This week, I crossed off a few big tasks: I finished up the one-pagers for our funders (check!), took on some more administrative work around the office, and I officially learned how to use a Xerox machine. It’s been a good way to see how an office environment functions, but the real excitement started when I began research for a new article.

After chatting with my CEO about college admissions, I was tasked with figuring out why the class of 2025 is the largest high school graduating class in history. I’m diving into all the reasons behind it—birth rates, cultural shifts, and economic policies—and trying to piece together how all these factors are driving this surge. It’s going to be fun unpacking what this means for the future of education and eventual job-hunting. One fun fact I learned is that the number of births in 2007, which is the Class of 2025, is the highest number of births in history, even surpassing the 1957 post-war baby boom.

On the side, for my independent work, I’ve been compiling a list of women I want to interview (because who doesn’t love a good conversation?) and drafting emails to get them on board. I’m also hunting down more sources to read, hoping to find that perfect article or study that will add another layer to my research.

I’m eagerly awaiting the chance to hear from women who can share their personal stories—those interviews are going to be the heart of my analysis.

See you next week!

Congrats on learning to Xerox! I'm excited to hear more about why exactly our graduating class is so ginormous and hear about these women's personal stories! Keep up the good work (:
