Week 9 – Learning about emails with the help of a monkey?
Elle M R -
Hello everyone and welcome back!
This week I learned A LOT about lighthouse a DPA program I have discussed in previous blogs. The biggest thing I learned is DPA programs seem to be ever evolving and therefore very hard to fully understand from all perspectives. While I am still working on updating data for the FHR workbook this was somewhat on the backburner this week due to the challenges I wrote about last week. My main focus was on creating presentations for an upcoming workshop series specifically for potential homeowners going through the lighthouse DPA program. I worked very closely with my mentor on these presentations and often had to communicate with a local expert from CIC a nonprofit in Tucson that has a very strong focus on the lighthouse program. FHR was required to produce three presentations that added significant information on top of the homebuyer education courses (Ehome, if you remember from previous blogs) lighthouse participants have already gone through. I had completed the same homebuyer education during the beginning of my internship so I helped differentiate what was heavily covered already and where there were gaps we could fill in with these presentations. This led to creating Home Sweet Home: Financial and Practical insights into Homebuying which focuses on the homebuying process and the differences that come when using lighthouse, Planning for the Unexpected: Disaster Planning and Insurance, and Keeping Up with Expenses and Tax Benefits: A homeowner’s guide to budgeting and maximizing savings.
Now I am sure you’re wondering “Elle if you were making presentations all week where do emails and monkeys come in???”, and you know what, that’s a really great question! This week I also learned how to use a site called MailChimp which is basically the Canva of mass emails, although so far slightly less user friendly. I created a couple different practice emails advertising the workshop series before getting feedback from the team! The best part is MailChimp sends them out, whereas in the past I had to go through our master mailing list and send out the emails to each group. It saves a lot of time and energy so I think everyone should say “Thank you MailChimp”.
Jokes aside I am glad you stopped by to read this week’s blog, I know it was a little longer, and I can’t wait to update you next week!
