Week 4 – outlines, outlines, outlines

Elle M R -

Welcome back everyone!

This week I prioritized my work on the Black/African American advisory committee. My main focus was to pull all the ideas from prior meetings and research into two different outlines: A master outline that covers everything FHR employees need to know about the program, scripts for emails to members and scripts for phone calls to members. This surprisingly brought me great joy because I was finally able to downsize the thousands of tabs on my computer into one document.

From this master document I edited it down (on a separate doc) into only information essential for potential advisory members outside of FHR. I also created a spreadsheet of potential members to reach out to, why I believed they were a good fit, and their info.

I also may need to request a last minute IRB form! This is due to a conversation I had with my advisor today. As I had mentioned briefly in a previous post discussing how I might be able to sit in on counseling session, I now may have to opportunity to interview clients (if they consent) to discuss what their main barriers to buying a home have been. If I am unable to do this or get a last minute IRB form my on site mentor says they will be able to provide numerical data from their system about the top issues for clients (some examples are low credit scores, high debt to income, etc.). This would be amazing for my research because it would give me numerical data to study versus just observation through my duties as an intern.

Thank you for checking in this week and I can’t wait to update you all soon!

That's a great update, Elle! Is there a large difference between the information on the document for FHR employees and for those outside of FHR?

Elle, I love how your project is progressing to a more personalized level with interviews! Do you think these quantitative data will provide similar results to your observational research?

Hey Elle, it is amazing how your project is becoming more and more focused on individuals rather than statistics! Speaking of statistics, would you know what measures are being taken to ensure that the quantitative data you may analyze is relevant to homebuyers in Tucson?

Thanks for your comment Jude! There is a big difference between the FHR and Non-FHR documents because the FHR document contain admin material such as email templates.

Hi Adhip! I believe the observational and quantitative data will align seeing as the quantitative data is coming from a bigger pool of housing counseling sessions.

Great questions Thomas! I am only using FHR data from Pima county and more specifically Tucson so it will be highly specific to our area.
