Braithwaite, Bartos, and Brown: Review of Week 7
Good evening, everyone. I hope you all are doing well. I had a very eventful Friday, which I would like to share with you.
My Friday began with a meeting with my On-Site Mentor, Dr. Braithwaite. We discussed my project and academic freedom’s future, particularly in the social sciences. My research works to integrate the recent changes the Trump administration has caused into my findings and discussion section. I then met with Dr. Bartos, helping me sharpen my methodology section. He gave me a book he wrote while he was at UC Irvine, research papers to learn more about the fentanyl epidemic, and personal advice about protecting my mental health. Finally, I met with Sam Brown who introduced me to the District Attorney of Pima County, Laura Connover. While I had already met her before, the experience was particularly great because she was a former federal prosecutor and I got to pick her brain about it. Here are some other items I accomplished during the week:
- Wrote a memo helping the Civil Division hire an attorney from the District of Columbia
- Close to securing an interview with Dr. Duran and with the Pima County Health Department
- Planning a meeting with Dr.Braithwiate and students at the University of Arizona
In the following weeks, I hope to get a final draft of my paper, which I will be working to finish with Dr. Briahtwiate, Dr. Bartos, and Dr. Kearl.
