SRP Week 6 Update

Andrew K -

Hey everyone!

This week, I’ve continued running statistical tests and building out the analysis section of my research paper. After finalizing my proximity categories and violation groups in earlier weeks, I’ve been running more targeted chi-square and ANOVA tests to explore how violation rates differ based on distance from SUSD high schools. It’s been rewarding to finally start seeing some concrete trends take shape after weeks of data cleaning and preparation.

I’ve also been steadily working on my research paper draft, focusing on tying my analysis back to the broader implications of nicotine accessibility and enforcement. Writing has helped me clarify my thinking and spot areas where I need more context or precision—especially when interpreting significant results.

One interesting thing I learned this week through background research and inspection notes is that some nicotine retailers frequently shift ownership or change names, often at the same physical location. This makes tracking violations over time more complex, since the store might appear “new” in public records despite a history of prior violations. I hadn’t initially accounted for that, so I’m now flagging these cases to avoid underestimating repeat offenses.

Heading into next week, I’ll be finalizing more of my visuals and continuing to shape my research paper.

Best,

Andrew
