Project Abstract
Dental crowns, one of the most common dental procedures in dental practices worldwide, serve as an aesthetic and functional solution for decayed, weak, or broken teeth. This process involves the creation of a tooth-shaped ‘cap’ that snugly goes over a patient’s tooth and allows the tooth to recover. In the United States, 2.3 million crowns are created annually and it is essential to ensure the process is perfected for both patients and practitioners. This study involves the comparison of traditionally created crowns involving the use of impressions and manually created molds and AI-generated crowns employing the use of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) models to take the data from the scan and create a model and design for the mold itself. In this study, an AI software called Glidewell.io will be used to create the crown models, as it is widely used among many dental practices. The main focus of this study is to compare the accuracy between the two methods, revolving around patient comfort, fit, and accuracy to determine which model is more efficient for the crown. With the data from this study, dental practices, and patients would have a greater understanding of the pros and cons of each option and make the decision that best suits their preferences and situation
