Week Ten: Finishing
Dhurva S -
Welcome all to my final blog post.
Over these past ten weeks I have learned so much about Pueblo culture. On top of that I have also learned more about Apache and Navajo culture that I have not mentioned in this blog. In specific I learned more about the Mescalero Apache. It is very encouraging to see Pueblo culture thrive for such a long period of time and over so many periods of strife. Particularly, under many western forces the Pueblo culture faced a loss of knowledge. For them their tradition, culture, and religion are very interconnected. Under the Spanish rule many of these practices that are so integral to their culture were under heavy regulation or even outlawed. The conversion to Catholicism waned other aspects of Pueblo culture as well. After the Pueblo revolt of 1680 there was a brief period of Pueblo culture to flourish without any Spanish oppression but that did not last for long.
Under the USA Pueblo children were forced to go to boarding schools with a western style of education. This culture has been passed down from generation to generation for its history. By creating this gap in generation many of the traditions which would be passed down simply couldn’t be.
To finish up with my senior project I have come back to San Antonio. Although I was not able to implement a yoga curriculum I still find that my senior project was a great success. I was able to learn more about indigenous cultures in the New Mexico area. On top of that I was also able to develop important connections and networks in the same area.
I would like to thank Mr Brunken, Mr Khothari, Mr Dash, Mr Takalkar, Mr Mallampati, and Mr Swami for helping me through this project.
I would also like to thank everyone reading my blogs.
Thank You all
