Week 8: Let’s roll the Slots!

Anthony R -

Welcome back to Week 8 of my blog!

When I look back on this week, Friday stands out as the most exciting and rewarding moment in the course of this entire project so far. I completed the design and launch of a fully functioning slot machine built specifically for our livestream. It was by far the most complex and technically demanding part of my project to date. The process involved multiple attempts messing with the probabilities in order to ensure profitability with an enjoyable customer experience.

Last week, I had initially planned to move forward with a game focused on concatenation, which was meant to work with the current Deal or No Deal Format. However, due to changing priorities, that plan has been temporarily put on hold. In its place, I pivoted to a slot machine-style format featuring three spots and five unique symbols. This new format was intentionally designed to complement our existing Deal or No Deal concept, allowing for an engaging and dynamic experience that keeps viewers actively involved. We launched the beta version of this new slot machine during the livestream and ended up grossing $4,500 at a very healthy profit margin.

Outside of the technical work, I also stayed active on the event planning side of things. Over the weekend, I attended an event at Ambassador Hall, located in the West Side of San Antonio. From a customer experience standpoint, it was one of the best events I’ve attended so far. That said, the event wasn’t without its downsides. There simply weren’t many guests in attendance. It felt very empty, which unfortunately limited the level of engagement and energy in the room. So, during my event, this experience reinforces the need for proper advertising in order to attract a large number of guests.

Looking forward to the last two weeks, I plan to attend as many events to finalize my research and begin to work on my presentation on May 24th!!!
