Blog 9: Finishing Everything – Part 1
James P -
Hello Everyone and welcome back to the last stretch of blogs for this project. Last week, I finished up my AI assistant chatbot “Byte”. This program marked the end of the creation portion of the second half of this project, that is, I’ve started all the programs that I will need by the end of this project. These next few blogs will be spent finishing up all the projects that I’ve started and getting everything functional by the end of my 10 weeks.
So, what exactly did I do? The answer to that question is: “a lot”. I won’t lie… the deadlines for this Senior Project did end up sneaking up on me. I originally had planned to finish up most of this stuff in the next 3 weeks, but one thing I failed to take into account were the project presentations. While this project does end in a couple of weeks, project presentation rehearsals start next week, and I would like to finish my project to include in the presentation by my first draft. This means that this week was spent making sure all my programs were near-perfect and ready to be published. In addition, I also had some catching up to do on some of the other parts of my project, specifically the parts that do with the actual “school-side” of it, like my syllabus. I won’t go into that here, but I will go into what in specific I worked on for my project.
The first thing that I worked on was my final product, my manual. Before this, what I had for my manual was a rough draft, essentially just some writing with little structure and based on just some what I thought of in my head. To do my final draft, I ended up having to redo and reformat everything on my rough draft. I opened up a new doc and using the rough draft side by side, I worked on it in the 3 sections of my manual. I won’t go into exact details of how I reformatted it from my rough draft to my final draft, but I essentially just condensed the information on the rough draft, made the formatting follow a more structured order, and double-check all the information is correct and concise. Then, I added a title page, table of contents, and added another section based on the paid programs and there I had my finished manual. I sent over this final draft to Mr. Smith to review and get some feedback.
The second thing that I worked on was my website. Before this week, all I had set up for my website was the theme and some template pages for all the things I wanted included. I started with the project blog section, where I copied all my blog information and fit it to my website theme and had it posted there. Then, I worked on my “Builds” tab where I described each of the 3 builds, including the specs and a picture of each of them. Then, I worked on the Shop page, where I designed a simple entry for the paid section for $5, I’m still working on a way to get the actual payments to work, however. Then, I worked on the actual paid/additional features section, where I integrated my AI, manual, and partially eBay bot. Then, the project gallery where I describe the 4 programs of this project. Then, I added the about me and home page where I describe this project, myself, and what a Senior project is in general. I also experimented with adding a password protected portion of my eBay bot. By the end of this portion, all I have left for my website is adding some images and integrating my eBay bot.
The rest of this week was spent working on my presentation, other document-like project things, and blogging. By the end of this week, I’ve completed nearly everything I needed to finish, all I’ve got left are the following: Revising my Final Draft, putting images on my website, integrating my eBay bot, and adding a payment option on my website. I will also likely end up doing some revisions to my presentation. I’ll go into more detail on how I finish up these sections in future blogs, so stay tuned as I wrap everything up!
