Week 4: The Week for Catching Up

Last week, I mentioned the Change Healthcare cyber attack. Unfortunately, I was not able to make it into Arizona Oncology this week because they needed to focus on communicating and perfecting their new system, so I do not have any updates from their side.

Back at the CPA firm, tax season is starting to enter full swing as the deadline for business’ taxes approaches. While, in a perfect world, we would love to have all business returns filed and sent to the IRS by March 15th, the reality of that is extremely unlikely for the quantity of clients the firm has. This week I was tasked with filing extensions for businesses that the preparers thought would not be completed by the 15th. Well more accurately, I came into the office on Friday and they said that they would like all extensions filed by Saturday, so I sat there for the majority of the day filing extensions for over 100 businesses. My eyes were throbbing! Also, something unfortunate about filing for extensions is that I have to undo all my work after I e-file it because the returns are still in preparation and we do not want them to accidentally be sent to the IRS without being completed. On top of this, I am now behind on processing, but hopefully I will be able to get back on top of it before the next deadline, April 15th, comes up for personal taxes. Some of our preparers are working Sunday to Saturday until 7pm to get their jobs done (which means more processing for me 🫠). I can only imagine how much work all the businesses who can not afford a CPA are putting in right now.
Now, at home, I am emailing away trying to set up dates for my interviews. I have quite a few willing participants, but availability seems to be an issue. For the next five weeks, I hope to start solidifying my podcast. I am really excited for this stage because there are so many interesting perspectives and stories out there!
