Week 9 – Presentation Work

Allison Y -

Hello everyone! Welcome back to my blog!

Currently, I am in the final stages of this project. So, this past week and this week, I was working on my presentation. I’ve been communicating with Professor Mommaerts and have gotten great edits and suggestions from her. I’ve learned more about what goes into a professional presentation and how it’s important to keep the font large, have little text on the screen, and talk more about your points in person. She showed me some ways to visualize and organize data, which is super great. I hope to incorporate that into my presentation so it’s easy to understand and follow.

Results-wise, I don’t want to reveal it all yet, but I will say I’m happy with the responses I’ve gotten. I feel like my demographics are pretty diverse, with responses from college students at different stages of their college journey taking my survey. They have a variety of ages and backgrounds. I would say there are many questions where people answered the same, so I could see a trend in how people approached music in general. However, there are still many different points of variety in answer, such as those related to mental health and how music has an impact on them. It’s also great how Google Forms actually creates a pie chart for you when the responses come in, so I already have a usable and easy-to-read visual. But I hope to convert some of the pie charts to tables so I can fit more data into a slide.

Right now everything is sort of slowly down and coming to an end so there aren’t too many things I can report without spoiling my whole presentation. So in the next week I’ll rehearse my presentation and make more edits. In the meantime, I’m working on my final paper.

That’s all for today. Thank you for reading and see you all next time with more updates!

Hi Allison, I'm glad to see everything come along smoothly. I'm excited to see the results-reveal in your presentation. Did you find anything unexpected in the data you received? How do you plan on approaching this data?

This is such a strong reflection—love how you’re balancing both the creative and analytical sides of your project. It’s great that you’re being intentional with your presentation design (large font, minimal text, visual clarity). That’s a skill that’ll serve you well beyond this class. Also really cool to hear about the diversity in your survey responses—it sounds like you’ve tapped into some meaningful insights, especially around mental health and music. Can’t wait to see how it all comes together in your final presentation! Keep it up :)

Hi Shriya! I felt that most of the data was what I expected but some specific questions I found some new results. For the unexpected data, I hope to look at it in the context of the whole survey to see maybe there could be a factor that made the results like that or was their a slip up on my part like phrasing or placement of questions.

Great insight Allison! Any tools that have proved useful in analyzing your data and building your presentation?

Hello! I've been doing a quantitative-descriptive analysis meaning it's more of comparing/contrasting the data that I have. I think it's a best fit with the time and data I got. For the presentation, I'm not using any specific tool; I'm just creating my slides with Google slides.
