Week 9- More data collection results

Anagha N -

Hi everyone!

Welcome back to my blog. As I work on my pamphlet and paper, I am also compiling the data I got from my surveys so I can present it in both my paper and presentation. Here is a link to the survey results. The questions are on the left with the number and percentage of respondents on the right.

A few things stood out from the data. For question 6 about core and non-core vaccines, eight participants said they were confident, two said they weren’t, and six were somewhat confident. That means eight believe they have sufficient knowledge, while the other eight do not. This suggests that core and non-core vaccines are still not widely understood. For question 8, nine participants felt confident about knowing what vaccines their pet needs, six were somewhat confident, and one was not confident. Although the majority expressed confidence, seven participants reported a lack of sufficient knowledge, highlighting that a gap still exists. For question 12 about confidence in using online resources/ pamphlets, seven participants said they were confident, while eight were somewhat confident. This shows that while many find these resources helpful, there’s still room for improvement to boost understanding and trust in these materials. For the last 4 questions about vaccination titers, most participants were either somewhat familiar or not familiar with titers, their purpose, or their cost. Vaccination titers are often overlooked in online resources, meaning many pet owners only learn about them when a vet brings them up. This reinforces the need to include information on titers in pet care resources. That is why I’m covering them in my pamphlet! That is all the updates I have this week. I will show the final version of my pamphlet in the next blog post.

See you next week!

Hey Anagha, I'm excited to see the final version of your pamphlet! What are some limitations of your research, in your opinion, regarding the sample of subjects surveyed (i.e., random selection or sample size). For instance, and correct me if I'm wrong, you are surveying the people that visit the clinic that you intern. Could this population be more educated on vaccines because of their willingness to visit the clinic for their pets (some prior education would be required for them to make visits)? Is this the population you intended on studying, and if not (i.e., if you wanted to represent all pet owners in general), how did you account for this?

Hi Anagha, great work with the results from your survey. For you pamphlet, have you identified any strategies to close some of these knowledge gaps, or to make information more accessible?

Your results are very intriguing, Anagha! What has been the most exciting trend in your data so far, and do you plan on creating graphs to visualize the data further?
