Week 9
Hello Everyone! Over this last week, I have been working on making my final presentation and data analysis. While I was initially planning on watching 15 movies in total, one of them was not available on any streaming service, so my final data set involves 14 movies. For my data analysis, I decided to present the data in the form of a double bar graph with a total of nine graphs, one for each behavior.
While observing and recording the trends in these graphs, I have also revisited my hypothesis to determine if my results are in alignment with what I initially predicted. For reference, my initial hypothesis states: I hypothesize that, as the movies become more recent, the prevalence of toxic romantic behaviors will decrease and the characters’ acknowledgment of such toxicity will increase as newer generations are more aware of the negatives of such representation. There are two parts to this, the first is the prevalence of the toxic behaviors. When looking at the final data, there was no clear correlation between the prevalence of the toxic behaviors and the year the movie was released, which proves the first part of my hypothesis incorrect. The second half of my hypothesis was partially correct as there was an increase in character acknowledgment of these behaviors from 2016 onwards. However, in the years prior, there wasn’t a clear trend, hence why my prediction was only partially correct. I also noted down some outliers that impacted the data trends, and I will be going over those in detail in my next blog post. Â
