Week 4- Organizing my research for a potential poster and Meeting with advisor
Hi everyone, it’s Sandy! This is week 4 of my blog post where I am focusing on brainstorming ideas for my final product. I hope to create a poster so that I can visually show the GAS method, the home program weekly checklist, and explain the concept of collaborative goal setting in a clear way.
I am currently breaking down each section of my project into an introduction, research objectives, methodology, results, and discussion so that it can be clearly organized on a potential poster. I am using my full proposal as a guideline for this. The introduction will include the purpose of my research and why collaborative goal setting and the GAS method are important in occupational therapy. The research objectives will include what I hope to demonstrate with my research and the methodology will uncover how I used the scale to track progress and weekly checklists to monitor consistency of client’s home program activities. I will analyze the results of the study to see if collaboration in healthcare and the Goal Attainment Scale improved OT outcomes for clients. Lastly, I will interpret the data and discuss the effectiveness of collaborative goal setting and the GAS method. I plan to emphasize here the practical implications of this study for therapists and families.
Meeting with advisor on 3/5:
I plan to meet with my advisor this Wednesday to discuss whether any of the families have sent her updates on the weekly home program checklist, specifically indicating which days of the week their child practiced their at home exercises. So far, I have only received an updated checklist from the family of Participant F, indicating their child practiced their assigned activity 3 days during the week of 2/17 out of the recommended 7 days. Having this information will help us understand how many days each client is realistically spending on their prescribed home program activities, compared to how often they should be doing them according to their occupational therapist. The more consistent they are with the practice, the more likely they will show improvement or greater progress on the GAS sheet, which is the ultimate goal for each client. However, it’s important to acknowledge that not every week will be equally productive, and challenges may arise, which is why I am approaching this with an open mind without having any prior expectations. I will also continue the volunteering that I do at the clinic, helping clean treatment rooms or any therapy tools. That’s it for this week…thank you for reading!
