Week 11
Aanand M -
Hi everyone! I am very happy to say that I have officially finished my AP Research Presentation and Oral Defense, and am near completion with my AP Research academic paper, which I will be submitting this week. I’ll also be presenting my Senior Project on May 9. I’ve completed my data analysis, meaning that I can share parts of my findings here! This week, I’ll share some of the quotes that I heard from the qualitative survey I assessed. Apart from serving as data, these quotes (which detail the kids’ growth over the 6-week period) continually made my work rewarding and motivate me as I cross the finish line!
“And now, all the PTs say he’s done great, like unbelievably well in the past few weeks, and in OT using his hands as well…never in a million years would I have thought that driving a car would have so many benefits, but it did”
“After telling people, I most often hear ‘He can do that? Really? That’s cool? Like he can do that?’ And I explain the big button. A lot of people put limits on him because of his cognitive abilities, but just seeing the videos and Tiktoks of him driving the car, people have realized that he is capable of so much more, and if you just give [these kids] a way to do it, they’ll figure it out”
“In the beginning, it was yelling, screaming, and sweating. I’m shocked that he didn’t want to dive into it. But now, when we talk about things to do and the big things he’s gonna do today, he’s most excited to drive a car and see his therapist. I think there aren’t that many things where he can just get in and do everything on his own. It’s been amazing to see him going forward and doing these kinds of things, which, I can’t say that he could’ve done something like this before”
