Preparing for World Day/Environmental Justice Summit
Vedika P -
My site placement at AANHPI for equity is finally starting the planning for the summit, which I am very excited about! Our first meeting for planning was today, and we discussed how to utilize our research for the summit. I will be preparing a poster with the data and data analysis I have done so far to present, aiming to show people the need to increase drought/water conservation interest in Arizona.
One of the ideas that we came up with was a Monopoly board game concept. The board game would be designed with a theme to teach people about how to maintain their environmental health. Chance cards will contain certain prompts that will either give or take away “health points”. Green zones will deduct resource points, which can demonstrate how certain demographics are disproportionately affected. In our game, the train is nonsensical because it forces you to move to the middle of the board by walking, thus consuming many resource points. Community cards allow you to stay within a community center to cool off and gain health points. We aimed to design the game to teach people how to be aware of environmental health as a whole.
Overall, I am very excited for this summit!
